Review: RIMMEL Mono Eyeshadow Colour Rush #030 Siren

Product Description:
Super soft blendable eyeshadow that lasts for up to 8 hours. Creamy pressed powder texture delivers bold colour with long lasting wear. Complimentary shades in convenient compact.

Now, let's see. I'd tried this eyeshadow for the past 1 week and it's pretty hard for me to form conclusion to review this product.
It comes in a neat packaging with clear top. A plus point as it definitely makes it easier to find the color you wants in your makeup stash. The lid cap on nicely with click. Well, I'm a sucker for nice click sound of makeup packaging. Another thing that I really like about the packaging is about how thin it is! So that's neat to fit into your bag without taking much space. This product lacking the typical cheap and pretty useless applicator. IMO, applicator that usually comes with drugstore brand eyeshadow is pretty useless for me, I prefer brush and I didn't touch up my makeup except for lipstick/gloss.

The texture of this product is matte with shimmer. That sounds weird, but it doesn't look like typical shimmery eyeshadow. It doesn't have the same sheen and the shimmer in the product is more like subtle sparkle. It applied sheer and can be layered to intensify it. On my oily lid, it last less than 3 hours, after that it would start fading. So I used it with Urban Decay Primer Potion and it last for more than 8 hour.
At first I thought Siren is a bright pink color, but when I finally received it, I'm pleased to find it's much better than that. I'm not really good at describing color but I can tell you it's more purplish/fuschia than pink. Even tho the eyeshadow have strong blue undertone, it suits my medium olive skin perfectly. This is the kind of eyeshadow you can get away without pairing it with another eyeshadow.

Like in the pic below, I pair the eyeshadow with purple eyeliner to bring the color out! Definitly loving it.

Below is another picture of me using the same eyeshadow (I recycled the pic from previous post. LOL)

Final verdict.

Would I recommend? If you like bright color and doesn't mine layering it to make it more vibrant, you can give this a try as it is an affordable drugstore brand.

Would I repurchase? Most unlikely at the moment. But if I got money to spare, I'll be getting Envy (the green one).

Simply Siti Eyeshadows

Last weekend, I went to Watson and Simply Siti single eyeshadows caught my attention.

Doesn't the pan shape looks a lot like NYX singles!

I swatched the Simply Siti eyeshadows and I find it to be very powdery and most the shadows are pretty sheer. I think it's because the line is manufactured in Korea, and typical Korean and Japanese eyeshadows are like that.

Smokey Brown Using ELF Brightening Eye Color in Day 2 Night

Day 2 Night IMO is one of the best palette ELF gotta to offer. The color pigmented and easy to blend.

Swatch: ELF Essential Brightening Eye Color over UDPP

I'd done review and swatches for ELF Essential Brightening Eye Color here. Honestly, I'm not that happy with the swatches picture. Especially the one without flash.

I bought Urban Decay Primer Potion in pro size last December, so I got lots to use for swatches.
Since I recently depotted all my ELF eyeshadow quad in to a CD case, I changed the pans position, but still group within its original quad.

All swatches done over UDPP. First row-natural light, second row-with flash, third row-eyeshadow in the pan.

I hope this post is useful for those looking for swatches picture of this quads since the one in ELF website is very very inaccurate.

p/s: I try my best to get the picture match as much as possible to RL color. As usual, different screen show the picture color slightly different.

DIY: CD Palette and Depotting.

There nothing original about this post, you can find all sort of information regarding DIY palette and depotting all over the internet.

I have few CD cases at disposal and I thought, why don't I depot all of my ELF Brightening Eye color quads.

You will need empty CD case, palettes to depot, tweezer, pointed tool, super glue and lighter.
First, remove the middle part of the CD that nest the disk, and now you have your empty palette. To remove the pan for its casing, heat up the bottom of the pan for 20-30 seconds. Long enough to melt the glue. To be on the safe side, I would recommend using candle or hair dryer instead of holding the lighter like I do. Oh ya, remember to remove the palette name sticker at the bottom of the palette first before you started depotting.

Using pointed tool, slip the pointed end in the gap between the pan and the casing, and try to lift the pan out. If the pan won't budge, heat the bottom a lil longer and try again. Next, apply super glue to the bottom of the pan and place it in your DIY palette accordingly. Tilt the palette to see if the pan sticks to palette.

Now repeat as needed. As you can see below, I arranged the eyeshadow according to its quad group and place the name label next to it.
A test to see if all the pan sticks nicely to the palette. One lesson I learn is that to be patient while depotting, don't force the pan out too much. I forced it and I got few eyeshadows cracked and broken.

Review and Swatches: ELF Brightening Eye Color

Edit (26th Jan 2011): I had taken better swatches pictures for these quads over UDPP. To see it click here.

I love this quads, I have tried almost all of the quads that available and I finally find the one, well, ten, that I like.

I find that the quad with matte finishes are not good. I couldn't make Brownstone, Hazy Hazel, Punk Funk and Matte Mauve work for me. The eyeshadows are too hard that I have to really rub my brush to pick up the product. It's not that pigmented and hard to blend. Pretty n' Pink and Ethereal on the other hand is too light to show up on my skin. I think it would work for porcelain fair people. Glam and Rocker are glitter madness, not all in the quads are glittery tho. I'm too old for glitter.

There are 18 different quad for Brightening Eye Color, we've gone through 8 of them. The rest, the 10 quads are the better of the lot. What they have in common is that most of them are shimmery shades.

Swatches were done w/o any base or moisturiser. Primer and bases surely will help bringing out the color vibrancy.

From to bottom:
  • Blue Moon - The dark blue, off-white and brown are soft and pigmented. The light blue is a little chalky and not so pigmented
  • Butternut - My favourite neutral palette, this quad blend easily. The lightest color is a bit hard (to pick up using brush) compared to the other 3.
  • Day 2 Night - I think this is the best of all the quads. The black is matte with slight shimmer. The other eyeshadows in the quad have metallic sheen to it.
  • Drama - Great for smokey eyes. The white is matte, but crazy pigmented. The greys have shimmer and glitter, but still okay. The black is not so pigmented, but works with the other eyeshadow in the quad.

From top to bottom:
  • Ivy -My go to palette. The quad pigmentation is great for everyday use, furthermore, the shades complement my dark brown eyes very well.
  • Luxe - Luxurious! The color are so pigmented and gorgeous, easy to blend too.
  • Nouveau Neutrals - The color doesn't show up very well on my medium skin. But I still like this for days when I'm too lazy for makeup. Well, you hardly go wrong with color that barely shown on your skin.

From top to bottom:
  • Nymph Dream - If I want a pop of color, this quad is the one I reach for.
  • Silver Lining - another palette that is gorgeous for smokey eyes. All the eyeshadows in this quad are soft and pigmented.
  • Teal Dream - Just like Silver Lining, All four eyeshadows in this quad are soft and pigmented. The blue especially is lovely with iridescent shimmer.
Eventho the packaging is small and cheap, I have no complaint. After all, it's only $1. I have no problem dipping my brush into the eyeshadow triangular pan. The size of these eyeshadow are small, but since it's quite pigmented, I think it gonna last for quite some time. This quads are far from perfect, some are powdery, the other a lil chalky. But all in all, it's great for the price. One more thing, these quads needs good primer or base to show its true potential. NYX Eyeshadow Base in White really bring out the quads vibrancy.

Would I repurchase? If I finished it up, yes.
Would I recommend? Only the ten quads that swatched in this post.

Swatch: L.A. Colors Metallic Eyeshadow Palette Tease | More Giveaway!

Swatch with (above) and without (below) flash

The pink color is the least chalky and the easiest to blend in Tease Palette

The colors are nice, however, once the supa shimmery top layer of the eyeshadow removed, we're left with chalky eyeshadow that hardly blend. I'm not impressed. Will not repurchase.

GIVEAWAY, YAY!

You gotta love this blog if you're a bargain hunter, lot's of her posts make me drool. Reviews in this blog also awesome, I love how she grade the product.

Review and FOTD: L.A. Colors Metallic Eyeshadow Palette Mesmerize

Mesmerize is my second L.A. Colors Metallic Eyeshadow Palette. You can find review for Soiree tagged ' L A Colors'. The casing and everything else pretty much same. However, I find that Mesmerize is less pigmented and less shimmery than Soiree. The Mesmerize shades is pretty much the opposite of Soiree. The colors, beige, green, purple, blue and grey, are muted colors.

Regarding texture, all the eyeshadow feels chalky, especially purple. The purple one also is the one that is least pigmented. I feel bad about that since it look lovely in pan. Mesmerize palette is harder to blend compared to Soiree.

Just like Soiree, top layer of the eyeshadow are much more shimmery, so for this review, I removed the top layer using cotton pad.

Without flash. This palette is not as pigmented Soiree.

With flash. This palette also not as shimmery as Soiree.

Since Mesmerize is not that pigmented, I think this palette is okay for everyday use. The eyeshadow applied over E.L.F. Mineral Eyeshadow Primer. Will using UDPP instead would make the color show up more vibrant?

Beige in the inner corner, purple in the middle and blue in the outer corner blended into crease. Grey and green lined under eye.
When I first bought this palette, I have high expection for Mesmerize because of the lovely shade. However the poor texture and pigmentation is such a big turn off that I'm quite disappointed. I wouldn't not repurchase any of the L.A. Colors palette as I find E.L.F Brightening Color suits me better.

FOTD

I applied the BB cream thinner than in Soiree review FOTD, and I noticed the blemishes much more visible here.

Skin79 Hot Pink BB cream, E.L.F. Studio Cream Eyeliner in Black, E.L.F. Essential Clarifying Pressed Powder in Honey, E.L.F. Mineral Eyeshadow Primer (not in pic), Maybelline Great Lash Waterproof in Very Black, Silky Girl Blusher Honeywood, L.A Colors Metallic Eyeshadow Palette Mesmerize, Clinique High Impact Honey Blush lipstick, Nivea Lip Care Rose Velvet.

Review and FOTD: L.A. Colors Metallic Eyeshadow Palette Soiree | Productrater Sigma Holiday Sigmax Brush Set Giveaway!

In this post I going to review L.A. Colors Metallic Eyeshadow Palette in Soiree. The palette comes in sleek thin plastic case with transparent lid. The applicator that comes with the palette is okay as long as you don't wash it. I tried to wash it, and the sponges come off.

The palette eyeshadow is finishes obviously shimmery metallic. Top layer of the eyeshadow are much more shimmery, so for this review, I removed the top layer using cotton pad. So the swatches below made from the eyeshadow lower layer.

The colors in this palette are grey, light blue, pink, blue and purple.

Without flash. The colors in this palette are very vibrant, only one swipe needed to reach the swatches intensity.

With flash, here you can see, even after the eyeshadow top layer removed, it's still shimmery(metallic)

The price are obviously a big plus, it's a good value since the eyeshadow are very pigmented. However, I noticed that these eyeshadow doesn't blend well. IMO, it works better alone. As comparison, E.L.F. Brightening Eye Color, like Luxe, Ivy, Blue Moon and many others blends better.

I think it doesn't blend well because the formulation is somewhat chalky. This palette need good eyeshadow primer to work. Overall, this product is decent.

I used four out five color in the palette today.

Grey in the inner corner, pink in the middle and purple in the outer corner blended into crease. Blue lined under eye.
FOTD

Products that I used today, Skin79 Hot Pink BB cream, E.L.F. Studio Cream Eyeliner in Black, E.L.F. Essential Clarifying Pressed Powder in Honey, Maybelline Great Lash Waterproof in Very Black, E.L.F. Essential Blusher in Flushed, L.A. Colors Metallic Eyeshadow Palette in Soiree. E.L.F. Essential Lipstick in Posh, Nivea Lip Care Rose Velvet, E.L.F. Mineral Eyeshadow Primer (not in picture).

Lately I couldn't be bothered to cover my under eye circle. It doesn't look so bad in the picture above. I guess the BB cream does slightly conceal imperfections.
Sorry for the annoying smug face, but this picture shows the blusher, eyeshadow and lipstick color better.

Review and Test Run: E.L.F. Brightening Eye Color - Day 2 Night and Teal Dream

In this post, I'm gonna share some pics when I done a test run for E.L.F. eyeshadow palettes that I got from latest haul.

Tested almost every single palette of E.L.F. Brightening Eye Color, I found that texture of the eyeshadow pretty much determine the quality of the quad. Almost all matte eyeshadow are low quality with low pigmentation and powdery. While shimmery one usually have good pigmentation and easy to blend. Day 2 Night (pic above) and Teal Dream (pic below) are the shimmery one, which means it fall to the high quality category. From the pics, you can see how pretty the quads is. All the swatches made from 1-2 swipes of the eyeshadow.

LOL, I'm too excited to test the eyeshadow. Teal Dream on the left and Day 2 Night on the right of the pictures.

Gorgeous aite?! Day 2 Night I think is the easiest palette to figure out. The moment I swatch it on my hand, I could figure out how to apply it my eyelids. For day, I'll use the white, rust, and light beige. To transform it for night time, just add the darkest color to the outer corner and blend into the crease.

I know, it does look horrible, I haven't figure out yet how to use all four shades in Teal Dream palette for an eye look. I think the eyeshadow is pretty, this palette will suit brown eyeliner perfectly.

This eyeshadow last quite long upon application depending of the eyeshadow primer/base that is used. Today I used Teal Dream over E.L.F Mineral Eyeshadow primer and it actually last, with minor creasing, until the moment this post written (8 hours past since the eyeshadow first applied).

Even though the quads is small, but it's highly pigmented that I think it gonna last for quite some time. I'll definitely repurchase and highly recommend both. Just remember to use it together with good primer.

Review: ELF Brightening Eye Color (Drama)

In my pajama and playing around with my makeup, I found that ELF Brightening Eye Color (Drama) deserves a review video ASAP. It is such a beautiful quad for dramatic look.

The quad comes with one matte white, 2 sparkly/shimmery grays and 1 a lil shimmery black. Paired with NYX eyeshadow, it could last quite long time, around 6 hours. With hot and humid weather here, slight creasing and fading unavoidable.

With decent brushes, this quad is easy to work with, the shades are buildable and blendable. You can see how nicely pigmented the quad is from the picture above. However, I noticed that this quad won't packed satisfactorily without a base for it to stick to. Without base, the sparkles from the grays easily fall out and it is hard to wipe it off from the cheek without messing up my foundation first.

The quad is awesome for travel as it so lightweight comparing to the Studio line packaging, I think it is because of the type of plastic and the fact that the mirror is way smaller compared to the studio line. It does look cheap tho! lol

Pardon me for the horrible picture, but you can see that the quad is actually an awesome quad!
